CBI submits interim report in Sister Abhaya case

Kochi, May 28 (UNI) The CBI today submitted, in sealed covers, to the court of Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate an interim progress report on its investigation into the Sister Abhaya case.

Ernakulam CJM P D Sharangdharan had directed the CBI on May 14 to submit a progress report on its investigation into the case, following a petition filed by Sister Abhaya's father.

The CJM deferred further hearing on the matter to June 4.

The Sister Abhaya case once again rocked Kerala following revelations that chemical tests of vaginal swab and smear conducted on the body of the 21-year-old nun had been tampered with, leading to suspicion that she did not commit suicide but was raped and murdered.

The nun's body was found in the well at the Pius Tenth Convent, Kottayam, on March 27, 1992.
