Jammu, May 28 (UNI) National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah today said the people of Border districts of Poonch and Rajouri are living a miserable life as coalition government has failed to provide them even the basic facilities like water, power and road connectivity.

Mr Abdullah was addressing a public meeting, on the last leg of his ten-day tour to the border areas of the Jammu province, at Dhar Gloon village of Mendhar.

The pathetic condition of people in far off areas indicates that the state Government has completely relinquished its responsibility towards the vital sectors of governance like health, education, water, road connectivity and power, Mr Abdullah said.

The miserable condition of people in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri was a litmus test for the failure of the government in reaching out to people living in far flung areas, Mr Abdullah added.

Describing four and a half year coalition rule as an era of mis-governance and corruption, Mr Abdullah said that while parties in power were after their vested interests, important decisions taken in Board meetings and state legislature for public welfare are either being ignored or implemented half heartedly.

The same is evident from the awful condition of roads, educational and health institutions in far flung areas, Mr Abdullah said adding that the condition of far off areas makes one wonder where all the money had gone.

Regretting huge burden put on the common man by increasing the power tariff, Mr Abdullah said during the NC regime, people were charged Rs 50 to 100 while today power fare was increased to 200 to 300.

Rising prices of essential commodities had already broken the back of masses and charging of such a big amount in the name of power tariff has further added to their woes, he said.

Asking the workers to strengthen the hands of the party, the NC President cautioned them against the designs of parties who were adamant to divide people on regional, lingual, communal and cast lines for their selfish political interests.

He said his party wants the state to remain as a single entity and it will never allow division on the basis of ethnical or regional identity.

''We have always favored uniform development of all the regions wherein lies the key for sustained economic growth of the state, he said adding that the NC is for simultaneous development of all areas to remove the sense of alienation from the minds of people.
