Kolhapur, May 27 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Ram Naik today charged the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre with failing to curb the soaring prices of essential commodities in the country.

The Former Union Minister told reporters here that the UPA government, led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, recently completed three years in office but have failed on all fronts to solve common problems due to their ineffective functioning.

The previous NDA government, led by former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, had decided to use ethanol in fuel to save country's money and also provide more benefits to sugarcane farmers. About Rs 500 crore had already been invested in the same. However, the UPA government, allegedly under pressure from liquor lobby, put some restrictions on previous government's decision regarding ethonal production, he said.

The defeat of Congress in Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, Punjab and Utter Pradesh State Assembly elections was a result of their failure to fulfil its responsibility, he said.

Mr Naik also criticised the Maharashtra government for destroying rural economy by not providing sufficient electricity to farmers for their crops and asserted that the shortage of electricity also effected industrial investment in the State.
