Police lathicharge agitating farmers

Adilabad, Andhra Pradesh, May 27 (UNI)Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse farmers who staged a dharna and blocked vehicular traffic.

According to sources, farmers who had been doing the rounds for cotton seeds to the Agriculture Department lost patience and staged a rasta-roko today as they were not supplied the seeds.

Police later requested the farmers to clear the National Highway linking Andhra Pradesh with Maharashtra so that traffic could resume. When they did not heed to the advice, the lathicharge was made, police said.

In the lathicharge and subsequent stampede, several people were injured. They were later shifted to a local hospital.
