MCX copper June contract falls over 4 pc to Rs 289 per kg

Mumbai, May 27 (UNI) The total turnover (single-sided) of all Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) contracts was Rs 50,004.58 crore for the week ended May 24.

MCX COMDEX was at 2,102.22 points, down by 1.92 per cent, from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed at 1,668.15 points (down 0.76 per cent), MCX Energy Index was at 2,126.72 points (down 2.25 per cent) and MCX Metal Index was at 2,504.97 points (down 2.01 per cent).

In the bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 11,852.96 crore (down 7 per cent) from the previous close. The gold June contract closed at Rs 8,642 per 10 gm (down 1.57 per cent) from the previous close. Open interest for all gold contracts was 18,459.3 and total volume recorded was 135,170.2 kg.

Silver contracts clocked turnover of Rs 7,866.58 crore (down 12.5 per cent). Silver July closed at Rs 17,812 per kg, down 0.65 per cent. Open interest for all silver contracts was 606,265 kg and total volume was 4,371,580 kg.

In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts registered a turnover of Rs 13,266.2 crore across the board. Copper for June delivery fell 4.24 per cent over the week to end at Rs 289.05 per kg. Open interest was 15,452 tonnes and total volume 441,764 tonnes.

MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 7,528.35 crore. The May contract was down 3.38 per cent at Rs 145.9 per kg. Open interest was 28,705 tonnes and total volume 498,035 tonnes.

In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 5,171.68 crore. The June contract was down 2.46 per cent at Rs 2,619 per barrel. Open interest was 1,193,100 barrels and total volume of 19,253,600 barrels.

Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 192.99 crore, open interest of 1,198,000 mmbtu and total volume of 5,826,500 mmbtu. The June contract was down 4.16 per cent at Rs 320 per mmbtu.

Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the turnover as such : All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 171.48 crore, open interest of 1,283.76 tonnes and total volume of 3040.56 tonnes.

Mentha oil for May delivery was down 1.86 per cent at Rs 585.2 per kg. All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts, with open interest of 40,870 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 936.95 crore and total volume of 197,380 tonnes. The June contract was down 0.09 per cent at Rs 476.6 per 10 kg.

MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 53.81 crore, open interest of 61,800 tonnes and total volume of 90,990 tonnes. The June contract was up 1.08 per cent at Rs 591.1 per quintal (100 kg).
