Mani Ratnam's brother dies in Manali

Chennai, May 27 (UNI) G Srinivasan, noted film producer and brother of acclaimed director Mani Ratnam, died after he slipped and fell into a 100 foot deep gorge while trekking in the tourist of Manali, Himachal Pradesh.

He was 49 and is survived by his wife Sandhya and three daughters --Shreya (18) and twins Divya and Akshya (15).

Ms Sandhya is the sister of renowned film producer G Venkateswaran, who had committed suicide a couple of years ago.

Family and film industry sources told UNI here that Mr Srinivasan, who was holidaying in Manali for the last one week, was trekking with his wife and elder daughter, when the accident took place at about 1200 hrs.

The body was later retrieved by the officials.

He was scheduled to return to Chennai tomorrow. His body would be flown tomorrow night from Manali for last rites.

Srinivasan had produced popular films directed by Maniratnam, including Iruvar (1997), Yuva (2002), Guru (2007) and Kannathinmuthanittal (2002).
