Major tragedy averted in north Kashmir; IED detected

Srinagar, May 27 (UNI) Security forces averted a major tragedy today when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Drugmullah in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.

Police said troops during a search operation detected the IED, weighing about three kg, at Watakhani in Drugmullah area.

The area was immediately cordoned off and all the residents evacuated to avoid any loss of life, police said, adding a bomb disposal squad was later summoned to defuse the IED.

Police said a huge loss of life and property could have occurred if the IED was not detected and defused on time.
