JK: Wife arrested for killing Army jawan

Jammu, May 27: Police have arrested the wife of an Army jawan and her paramour for killing her husband at Jawahar Nagar locality here on the city outskirts police sources today said.

A Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK L I) jawan Abdul Majid was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Jawahar Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Satwari Police Station on May 17.

The autopsy report of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, had revealed that the jawan was strangled to death.

The police had zeroed in on the wife of jawan Sonia after the incident was brought to the notice of Satwari Police by Bashir Ahmed, father of the deceased, who is also residing in the same area but in a separate house.

During subsequent questioning of deceased's wife, she confessed to have helped her paramour in committing the crime.

It was a second marriage of Sonia with Sepoy Abdul Majid after the demise of her first husband, but she was having an illicit relation with one Mohammad Iqbal of nearby Raipur Satwari area, according to police.

The accused had forcibly given a huge dose of liquor to the jawan who was already drunk, and then strangulated him to death, police said.

Following the confession of crime by Sonia, police conducted a raid and arrested the other accused Mohammad Iqbal.
