Hangman's kin hangs herself
Kolkata, May 27 (UNI) In an irony of fate, the nearest kin of a hangman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself here.
Uma, the daughter-in-law of Nata Mullick, the lone official hangman in West Bengal, was found hanging in her room yesterday at Tollygunge area in the city's southern part.
She was stated to be suffering from depression because of a prolonged neurological problem, police said.
Mother of two sons, Uma was married to Nata Mullick's youngest son, an employee of Kolkata Corporation, and was living in a joint family.
Her body was found when Nata Mullick called her for a cup of tea after his morning walk.
Over the past several decades, Nata Mullick executed capital punishment to several convicts, including Dhananjoy Chatterjee, who was put to the gallows in 2004 triggering a nation wide debate.
