Gadkari backs teachers' stir

Nagpur, May 27 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra unit President Nitin Gadkari has extended his support to the ongoing stir of teachers from Vidarbha against the decision to reopen schools in the region on June 15.

Mr Gadkari addressed a protest rally of the teachers here yesterday and assured them of the full support of his party to their cause.

He lashed out at Minister for Education Vasant Purke for his decision to reopen schools in the region for the new academic session on June 15. The party would stage demonstrations all over the state if the decision was not revoked, he added.

Teachers in Vidarbha are opposing the move to open the schools early. saying the heat is still severe even in June and the students would suffer. The teachers have launched an agitation against the decision.
