Five killed as bus plunges into river

Lucknow/Aligarh, May 27 (UNI) At least five people were killed and 12 others injured when a bus plunged into Karwar river in Aligarh district this morning.

Police said the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) with 35 passengers on board coming from Mathura, collided head on with a tractor-trolley on a bridge and fell into the river.

Five bodies were fished out by rescuers, while 12 others injured were brought ashore safely, DIG (Agra range) Kamal Saxena told UNI.

Eighteen of the passengers escaped unhurt.

The accident took place in the Eglas area of the district.

The condition of at least two of the passengers was stated to be critical.

A girl, earlier feared killed in the incident showed signs of life and was rushed to hospital.

The tractor-trolley too fell into the river but 16 of its occupants escaped unhurt.

Police used a crane to pull out the two vehicles from the river.
