Congress opposes trifurcation of J
Srinagar, May 27 (UNI) The Congress in Jammu and Kashmir today condemned in strongest terms the suggestions from some separatist and political parties to trifurcate or split the state on regional and communal lines.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief and state Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said the division of the state on communal and regional lines continued to be on the agenda of communal forces in the country.
''The Congress stands for unity of Jammu and Kashmir and will work tirelessly for its peace, prosperity and development in future also,'' he added.
Peerzada Sayeed was speaking at a function organised by the state Congress at its headquarters here to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 43rd death anniversary.
At a rally here recently, Peoples Conference chairman Sajjad Ghani Lone had proposed trifurcation of the state on regional lines -- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh -- as a solution to the vexed issue.
''If the people of two of the regions -- Jammu and Ladakh -- are not happy with the administrative arrangement, they should be allowed to separate from the state and given a chance to govern themselves,'' he added.
