Bridge collapse disrupts vehicular traffic on NH 52
Itanagar, May 27 (UNI) A 100-feet bailey bridge collapsed this morning when a 16-wheeler overweight trailor tried to pass through it along NH 52 near Asom-Arunachal border.
The 20-tonne-capacity bridge collapsed when the 15 tonne trailor carrying 40 tonne cement tried to pass through at 265.5 km Point along the highway, six km off Gohpur towards Bandarduwa.
As a result, vehicular traffic came to a standstill in parts of central Asom and Arunachal Pradesh, informed BRTF Commander UK Pandey.
All light vehicles have been diverted from Bandarduwa to Gohpur via Itanagar.
Though it takes a weeks' time to repair such a bridge, Mr Pandey said that work has already been started to make it traffic worthy within two days.
The BRTF officer also informed that the force would demand compensation of Rs three crore for the damage.
