Kohima, May 27 (UNI) The district authorities have imposed Prohibitory Orders in Wokha town under Section 144 CrPC following clashes and attack on police officials in the town and adjoining areas yesterday. Nagaland Commissioner T N Mannen told UNI here today that the orders were promulgated following the assault of one assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police and one constable.

The incident occurred after the alleged NSCN cadres assaulted a traffic police, who protested against the cadres for violating the traffic rules.

The youths also attacked the police personnel, who arrived at the spot to arrest them.

However, the arrested youths were taken to the police station and were later released on bail.

Later, people of Wokha village, demanding arrest of the erring youths, ransacked the house of one police constable who released the youths.

''Following the violence, the district authorities had clamped indefinite prohibitory orders in the town and police patrolling were beefed up to thwart further violence, and the situation is under control,'' Mr Mannen said.
