Student killed, six injured as portico collapses

Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, May 26 (UNI) In a gruesome incident, a 16-year-old girl student was killed and six other students seriously injured, when a portion of a portico collapsed and fell on them at Kaikurichi village near here this evening.

Police said a group of students of Sri Bharathi Matriculation School was standing under the portico when the accident occurred.

The students were in the school to attend a special class.

The deceased student was identified as Subhashini.

The injured students, including three girls, were admitted to Government Hospital at Tiruchirapalli and Government Medical College Hospital at Thanjavur.

The condition of one girl was said to be very critical, police said.

Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest S Raghupathy and Pudukkottai District Collector S J Chiru visited the injured at the Government Hospital and consoled the family of the deceased.
