North Korea fired one missile, not several: Report
Seoul, May 26: North Korea fired just one, not several, short-range missile off its east coast and may follow up with the launch of another from its west, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted intelligence sources as saying today.
Japan's NHK television said yesterday that the North launched surface-to-ship missiles from its east and west coasts, and the United States and its Asian allies downplayed them as part of normal military drills.
''North Korea fired one missile towards the east sea, but it's impossible to confirm its type except it's believed to be a short-range missile,'' one of the sources was quoted as saying.
Defence Ministry and National Intelligence Service officials reached by telephone could not confirm the report.
A no-sail order had been issued on Thursday to keep fishing vessels clear of the area where the missile is believed to have landed, Yonhap quoted the source as saying.
''The possibility of a launch towards the west sea cannot be ruled out because the North has issued a no-sail order this morning (today) for fishing boats in the west,'' Yonhap quoted another source as saying.
