Orissa: Wildlife activists rescue a 8.5 foot python

Kendrapada,May 25: Wildlife activists have rescued a 8.5 feet long python from a snake charmer and handed it over to the Bhitarknaika National Park officials to be released in the wild.

Sources said some teen aged youths under the banner of Banarsena, have rescued the python from a snake charmer in Mahipal village under the Kendrapara municipality area.

The rescued snake was then taken to Bhitarkanika National Park on Wednesday last and handed over to the (DFO) District Forest Offricer of Rajnagar Mangrove Forest and Wildlife Division to be kept at the Reptile Park in the Dangamala Crocodile Breeding Centre.

According to wildlife activist Biraja Prasad Pati the Banarsena has taken a mission to stop cruelty and atrocities on wildlife species, rescue them and release them in the wild.

Mr Pati said the Banarsena team has already rescued more than 60 poisonous snakes from the possession of snake charmers and released the vipers in the wild.
