Postal dept introduces on-line passport services

Vijayawada, May 25: Senior Superintendent of Post Offices E Veerabhadra Rao today said the Postal Department has introduced 'on-line passport service' through three post offices in Vijayawada division.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the post offices identified for the services were Vijayawada Head Post Office, Buckinghampet Head Post Office and Chandramoulipuram Speed Post Centre.

Mr Rao said the applicants can purchase the passport applications along with envelope at any of the above identified post offices at the rate of Rs 20.

Postal officials trained by passport authorities would guide the public to fill up the applications, he said.

The application should be submitted to the three selected post offices for checking and processing, he said and added the applicants need not pay any extra fee for processing. The application would be submitted on-line to the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad.

The passsport would reach the public through speed post service, Mr Rao said.

He said Vijayawada Head Post has also introduces web based Instant Money Order service (IMO). The service was offered between two individuals within India. The money booked through IMO could be disbursed the very next minute to the addressee. A minimum amount of Rs 1,000 and a maximum of Rs 50,000 can be sent through this service, he said.

He said the money could be sent from Vijayawada HPO to any of the 246 IMO centres in the country at a very reasonable tariff. A printed receipt with a sealed computer generated confidential 16-digit IMO number would be given to the sender, he said.

This number has to be to be convyed by the sender to the payee and the payee can collect the money from any of the IMO centres on presentation of the number with a photo identity proof, he said.
