Noida SEZ meets contiguity norms: Reliance ADAG
New Delhi, May 25: Reacting to the objection raised by the Uttar Pradesh government to a special economic zone (SEZ) in Noida on account of its alleged lack of contiguity, Anil Ambani-led Reliance ADA group today said the land comprising the SEZ already has underpasses to meet the contiguity norms.
In a statement, the company spokesperson said the Union Ministry of Commerce, however, allows SEZs with non-contiguous areas as per the amendement carried out by the Ministry on March 16, this year.
The Ministry, the spokesperson said, had approved Reliance Industries' 12,500-acre Jamnagar SEZ which is '' non-contiguous''.
It was also considering granting approvals to others non-contiguous SEZs.
Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), which is a stratgic partner in the 1,200-acre SEZ at New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida), has, however, offered to discuss the issue with the U P government as also with the Commerce Ministry to resolve objections raised by the Mayawati government.
Objecting that the Noida SEZ lacked contiguity, the U P government referred the proposal to Central government yesterday, reportedly recommending scrapping the project. The state government said a road passing through the proposed SEZ bifurcated it in to two, thus violating the norms of continguity laid down by the Centre.
