New Delhi, May 25: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today said her government would not indulge in political vendetta but the decisions of the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government, which were found 'anti-people' and 'irregular' would be reviewed. Addressing the national media for the first time after becoming Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the fourth time, Ms Mayawati said, "All decisions of the previous government would be reviewed on the basis of their merits and demerits."' She said her government was determined to end the 'jungle raj' prevalent in the state and would give top priority to establishing the rule of law by creating a development-oriented atmosphere, free of crime and fear.

''The people of the state have given a mandate against criminals and mafias and the state government would fulfill the faith shown by the electorate'' Ms Mayawati asserted.

All notorious criminals, no matter how influential they were, would be forced to accept the majesty of the law, she said, adding that they would either be put behind the bars or forced to flee the state.

On the issue of the installation of the statues in the state, the Chief Minister said it has been decided that no statue would be installed, either on public or private land, without the permission of the Chief Minister's Office.

She said this had become imperative to ensure that social disputes related to the installation of the statue did not vitiate the atmosphere.

The Chief Minister also announced that the administration would be made transparent and responsible by evaluating the functioning of the government at all levels.

A surprise inspection would also be carried out to ensure quality in developmental work.
