Wall collapse: Death toll increases to 28

Coimbatore, May 24 (UNI) With one more person succumbing to injuries at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital in the early hours today, the death toll in the wall collapse tragedy at Tirupur last night has risen to 28.

The deceased was among the five seriously injured persons who were admitted to the CMC hospital here. Shanmugha Sundaram (41) who hailed from Kaliampalayam near Tirupur died.

In one of the worst tragedies 27 persons were killed and several others seriously injured when a tall compound wall, near a hoisery unit collapsed on a TASMAC bar at Anuparpalayam Pudur near Tirupur last night.

Most of the deceased hailing from Southern districts of the state were working with various hosiery units.

So far 22 bodies were identified.
