Tension after lathi charge in Chhattisgarh
Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, May 24 (UNI) Police fired in the air and resorted to lathi charge to disperse a mob, which indulged in stone throwing and damaged vehicles demanding arrest of those responsible for the death of a person at village Ajab Nagar, about 10 Kms from here this morning.
About 20 people were injured, four of them seriously, in the incident, police said.
The villagers resorted to road blockade alleging that one Vijay Devnath died after he was assaulted by some unidentified persons while he was on his way to Manendragarh, but the police maintained that he sustained injuries in an accident.
As the agitators turned violent and stoned police vehicles, police resorted to lathi charge and also fired in the fire to disperse them.
Police said Vijay Devnath had sustained injuries in a road accident on May 16 and he succumbed to his injuiries while undergoing treatment at a hospital at Bilaspur.
