Slight earthquake in Gujarat's Kachchh district

New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) A 'slight' intensity earthquake, measuring 3.7 on the Richter Scale, shook Gujarat's Kachchh district this evening.

The temblor occurred at 1824 hrs and had its epicenter at 23 degrees North latitude and 69.8 degrees East longitude.

There were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

Scores of people were killed and millions injured and rendered homeless after the January 26, 2001, devastating earthquake which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale.

Its epicentre was located 80 kilometres north-east of the city of Bhuj in the Kachchh district. It was the second largest recorded earthquake in India, the largest being in 1737 and was one of the worst natural disasters in India in more than 50 years.
