Security forces kill militant in north Kashmir

Srinagar, May 24: Security forces killed a militant in a fierce encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara today, a police spokesman said.

He said troops of 17 Dogras and Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Singran Tangwari in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara after receiving a tip off that militants were hiding there.

However, when the security forces about to storm a particular house, they came under heavy fire from militants hiding inside.

The fire was returned and in the clash, one militant was killed.

He said a search operation in the area was still going on when reports last came in.
