Megh Guv concerned with NE economic development
Shillong, May 24 (UNI) Meghalaya Governor B L Joshi today expressed concern over the deficient regional economic growth and human resource development in the North Eastern states.
Inaugurating a two-day national seminar on 'Growth and Human Development in North East India' at the North Eastern Hills University (NEHU), Mr Joshi said the NE had not experienced sufficient growth during the past few years.
He said the region had been facing various obstacles, cutting across the spheres of economy, society and polity towards its all-round development.
Mr Joshi advocated that the region required a holistic and comprehensive approach that could unify the various ethnic groups and synergise the strengths inherent in the society, polity and economy.
However, the governor stated that the region had made considerable progress in the field of education at all levels.
The two-day seminar was organised by the Economic Department of the NEHU and attended by senior economists from several universities of the country.
