Kumaraswamy warns Panchayaths on Grama Sabhas

Bidar, Karnataka, May 24 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today warned that stern action will be initiated against those Village Panchayaths which continue to ignore to hold Grama Sabhas for selection of beneficiaries of housing schemes.

Addressing a district review meeting here he expressed anguish over tardy growth made during last three where only 15 per cent of progress was achieved in the district as for as housing schemes was concerned.

The Chief Minister said the main reason for not making any progress of various housing schemes including Ashraya, Ambedkar and Indira Awas Yojana, intended to providing shelter to downtrodden section of the society, was due to failure in conducting Grama Sabhas to select deserving beneficiaries.

Warning the Panchayaths to take drastic action including that of super ceding the bodies, Mr Kumaraswamy asked them to hold grama sabhas within 15 days in the district and complete the process of selection of beneficiaries.

On the problem of Sugarcane growers in the district the Chief Minister has said that the state government was committed to provide relief to the farmers who were affected badly following non-harvesting of crop. "After holding meeting with the officials of finance department, a decision will be taken on the issue," he said.

He said the problem of sugarcane growers was compounded as sugarcane factories had failed to buy sugarcane for over two months.

He instructed Director of Sugar Directorate to hold an inquiry into the matter.
