ECR registers record earnings in April
Patna, May 24 (UNI) The newly set up East Central Railways (ECR) here has recorded an impressive performance during April this year surpassing all previous records in terms of earnings from passengers and freights.
Claiming more than 38 per cent growth in overall earnings of the new Railway zone during last month, ECR sources here today said compared to Rs 370 crores earned by ECR from both passengers and freight traffic during April 2006, Rs 413 crores had been pocketted by the zone during last month to comfortably surpass its targetted monthly income.
Stating that more than 17 crore bonafied passengers had travelled through ECR during last month generating Rs 86.43 crores of revenue for the national exchequer, the sources claimed that both in terms of the number of travelling passengers and income ECR had surpassed all previous monthly records.
Similarly, by carrying 6,264 million tonnes of different types of freight during April last, the ECR had earned to the tune of nearly Rs 323 crores which itself was a record by all means, the sources said. It was, however, in addition to carrying 1.37 lakh quintal of parcel by the railways generating a revenue of about Rs 1.20 crore during the last month, the sources added.
