Court refuses to issue NBW for Orissa DGP Mohanti

Jaipur, May 24: A local court today refused to issue non-bailable warrants (NBW) for Orissa's Director General of Police (Home Guard) B B Mohanti in the Bitti Mohanti escape case.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate(No 2) Rajendra Bansal denied the request made by police in this regard and directed it to inquire whether Mohanti was presently discharging his duties or absconding from the job and submit its report before the court.

The police has sought issuance of warrants against the officer after expiry of his anticipatory bail on Monday.

Mohanti is wanted by the police after his son Bitti Mohanti, convict in a German woman rape case, jumped bail during parole leave and absconding since December 4. Mohanti had filed surety papers for release of his son on parole.

He was granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court till May 20.
