Cops clueless about dacoity in MP industrial area

Raisen, MP, May 24 (UNI) Police are clueless 24 hours after a sensational dacoity at three major jewelry shops in Madhya Pradesh's principal industrial area Mandideep -- located in this district -- though about two dozen people are being interrogated even as a bandh proved successful there.

More than a dozen dacoits struck late last evening after arriving on foot, fired in the air and ran off with roughly Rs 15 lakh worth of jewelry and cash. Traders are demanding the arrest of the accused and re-establishment of a police post in the main market. Police are searching for the dacoits in Raisen, Bhopal and Hoshangabad districts.

A few months back, dacoits targeted jewelry shops at Chhindwara district headquarters, police said.

''Four sub-divisional officers are leading probe teams,'' said Superintendent of Police K C Jain. Empty jewelry boxes were found in Kolar area of Bhopal that adjoins this district.

Mandideep is about 35 km from the state capital. Though police are still making an estimate of the loss, traders placed it in the region of Rs 15 lakh.
