AP CM's talks with Communists on land grabbing movement fail

Hyderabad, May 24 (UNI)Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's efforts to put an end to the land-grabbing movement undertaken by the CPI(M) which was creating law and order problem failed today.

The meeting called by Mr Reddy in the evening was attended by the CPI(M) and CPI leaders. But they questioned the Chief Minister why he had not invited leaders of other parties.

CPI(M) Assistant Secretary Y Venkata Rao told UNI that the Chief Minister told them that there was no need for any agitation for dwellings for the poor as the government itself was keen on it.

The party state secretary and Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu differred with the Chief Minister and told him that the facts were otherwise. Mr Raghavulu told Dr Reddy that he was being misled by the officials about the ground reality.

The Chief Minister offered to hold a workshop on the subject.

But the Communist Leaders demanded a clear attitude on the report of the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee submitted to the government six months ago.

Mr Rao alleged that the Committee appointed two years ago, submitted its report six months ago and the government was keeping it as a secret. The government had not responded even when the opposition demanded that the report be tabled in the House.

The CPI(M) leader said they came out of the meeting stating that Koneru Ranga Rao Committee report should be made public and the government should make its attitude clear before calling for a workshop.
