UP assembly adjourned sine die after pandemonium

Lucknow, May 23 (UNI) The opening session of the 15th Uttar Pradesh assembly was adjourned sine die today after the main opposition Samajwadi Party created pandemonium for the second day in succession demanding the deletion of some portion of the Governor T V Rajeshwar address.

The SP had derailed the functioning of the assembly since yesterday following their protest againsts the Governor's address to the joint session of the state legislature on Monday in which it was said that the previous government was ''unconstitutional''.

The motion of thanks on the Governor's address was passed by the house amid din in the absence of Chief Minister Mayawati and leader of the opposition Mulayam Singh Yadav.

As the assembly sat for the day, BJP members raised the issue of Gorakhpur serial blasts and later boycotted the house as the SP members trouped into the well demanding deletion of the governor's address.

The SP members climbed on the reporters table raising slogans against the governor and throwing paper balls and caps of the security personnel towards the chair.

Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar tried to calm down the members failing which he took the thanks motion of the governor's address and adjourned the house indefintely within 23 minutes.

Amidst the noise, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma in his statement said that there was nothing unconsitutional in the governor's address and SP was trying to hijack the proceedings of the house.

Urging the speaker to take appropriate action against the erring members, the BSP member said SP wants anarchy in the state which would not be tolerated.

However, SP deputy leader Azam Khan even at one time asked the chair to throw out the protesting members if he wanted so.

The brief three day inaugural session of the 15th assembly had commenced on May 21.

The next session of the assembly is expected in the last week of June when the BSP government would bring the budget proposals for the current financial year.
