Police defuse tension in village: Sacha Sauda issue

Sangrur, May 23 (UNI) Tension gripped Dhanere Kalan village of Barnala district when a group comprising members of Sikh religious organisations attempted to burn an effigy of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh.

Official sources at Barnala said that timely arrival of the police prevented the effigy from being set on fire. The police seized the effigy and forced the protestors to disperse.

The village has a sizeable number of followers belonging to Sacha Sauda dera. The followers objected to the burning of the effigy and confronted the protestors.

However police arived in time and prevented the situation from getting out of hand. Senior civil and police officials are still camping in the village.
