One week time to vacate encroached land: CM

Thiruvananthapuram, May 23 (UNI) A time limit not exceeding three days will be given to vacate the encroachments on government land and demolition of illegal constructions in Munnar and other places in Kerala, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said.

Speaking to mediapersons after a Cabinet meeting, he said the government took the decision following complaints that adequate time was not given for vacating encroached land and demolition of illegal constructions.

The Chief Minister said the district Collectors would be given instructions in this regard.

The Cabinet decided to provide compensation of Rs 25,000 each to 179 families affected by the communal incidents in Marad beach of Kozhikode four years ago. Families which lost properties in the recent fire at the Vadi beach in Kollam would be given a compensation of Rs 10,000 each.

The Cabinet also decided to sanction one month's free ration to 90 families hit by chikungunya at Chittar and Seethathode in Pathanamthitta district.
