Nine in police custody at disputed structure

Ayodhya, May 23 (UNI) Nine people were taken into custody under mysterious circumstances while they were going to have 'darshan' at the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi complex here today.

Superintendent of Police (city) K K Asthana said all the persons were taken into custody when they tried to enter the Kanak Bhawan temple on fake identity.

The accused had come to Faizabad to attend a nuptial ceremony and thronged the temple city to have 'darshan' of Ram Lala.

Meanwhile, interrogation was on.

Early today, the Railway Police recovered a large quantity of explosives from the Faizabad Railway Station, following the serial blasts in Gorakhpur last evening.

The explosives included 10 kg of suspected gun powder and 20 litres of ammonium nitrate from the second class waiting room on platform No 1.

The bomb disposal squad later rushed to the site and took the explosives under custody.

Meanwhile, security agencies were rushed from Lucknow to Faizabad to probe the case. The security at the Ram Janmabhoomi and other important spots here had been further tightened.
