Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) The newly appointed BMC Commissioner Jairaj Pathak in a press conference today said that the media will be continously briefed every hour by a senior official during heavy rains.

The official will also talk about various rescue operations undertaken by the BMC and details of the the affected areas.

It has been seen in the past that there was no one from the BMC who could brief the media about any problem and the actual situation.

Moreover Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, some days back, had warned the media against carrying wrong information and news that results in a panic.

In 2005, it was seen that there were rumours of a tsunami in the city and that water from Tansa and Vihar lake was entering the metropolis after dams had burst. Such rumours had resulted in loss of lives due to panic.

Mr Pathak said disaster management cell of the BMC will be operational and have all relevant and correct informmation regarding the rains and the monsoon-affected areas, which will lessen rumours and reduce panic created in the city because of wrong information.
