India-UAE relations on high note : Consul General

Kochi, May 23 (UNI) Indian Consul General in Dubai Venu Rajamony, today said the bilateral relations between India and the UAE were on a high note due to the recent initiatives taken by the respective governments.

Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Venu said,'' the bilateral relations between India and the UAE were moving from strength to strength as the governments concerned were considering the importance of strategic alliance between the two countries.'' Stating that the foreign policies of the two countries had lot of measures to strenghten the relationship, he said ''the recent visit of the UAE Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed had given a new impetus to state-level relations.'' Mr Venu said the Gulf region, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, were keen on having a good working relations with India.

'' UAE entrpreneurs were particular about investing in India in the fields of IT and real estate and Indian businessmen were coming forward to set up business at free-trade zones in the Emirates,'' Mr Venu said.

The Consulate was initiating a number of measures like Indian Community Welfare Committee, Legal Assistance Cell and Crisis Prevention Centre to solve the problems of the nearly 14 lakh Indian community in the UAE.

Mr Venu said a nodal officer had been appointed to stop the menace of human trafficking, especially women, to the Emirates.

He noted that the suicide rate among the Indian community was increasing due to a combination of financial constraints, loneliness, alcoholism and marital problems.
