Itanagar, May 23 (UNI) The capital city of Arunachal was deluged yesterday with heavy downpour measuring 92.55 mm. It flooded most of the areas and washed away water supply pipelines.

The drainage system failed to discharge the gushing rain water, which entered the shops after flooding the street thereby leading to huge loss of property.

It might take more than five days to restore the water supply pipelines, official sources said.

Many people came out on road to clean the garbage choking drains and culverts and facilitate smooth discharge of rain water.

Few others were trudging through waist-deep water.

Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) president Techi Lala inspected most of the areas to assess the damages incurred.

''This calls for immediate establishment of municipality or activation of disaster management wing of the district to tackle such problems caused by natural calamities,''Mr Lala said.

The traffic movement was also disrupted at NH 52 near Nirjulia area near here.

However, the road was not damaged, GREF sources informed.

Another flash rain accompanied with storm lashed the township in the afternoon uprooting many trees.
