Electioneering gathers momentum in Ullal
Mangalore, May 23 (UNI) Electioneering for the June two bypolls for Ullal assembly seat in the coastal Dakshina Kannada district is slowly reaching its peak with top state leaders from main contenders the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party camping in the constituency and taking out day long door-to-door campaigning.
Meanwhile leaders Janata Dal(S), the coalition partner of the BJP in Karnataka, has also fielded its candidate but its leaders were yet to join the fray.
The constituency had remained a bastion of the Congress which had won six times, while BJP and the CPI have bagged it once each. The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of sitting member U T Fareed of the Congress. While Congress has pitted his son U T Khader, BJP has reposed faith in Chandrasekhar Uchil who had lost to Fareed in the 2004 General Elections.
In this sensitive constituency having the population of 2,18,484, there are a total 1,61,070 voters in which women (81,767) slightly outnumber men (79303). There are 65 sensitive and 52 super sensitive booths out of the total 140 booths.
