CPI recommends Raja to Rajya Sabha

Chennai, May 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) today recommended Party's National Secretary D Raja as its candidate for the June 15 biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from the State.

CPI State Unit Secretary D Pandian said the Administrative Committee, which met here today, recommended to the Party's National body to nominate Mr Raja for the Rajya Sabha seat from the State.

The ruling DMK, heading the DPA in the State, could win four of the six seats, falling vacant on July 24. It had decided to allot one seat each to the Congress and the CPI, while retaining two for it.

The Opposition AIADMK with the support of MDMK was poised to win the other two seats.
