Shillong, May 23 (UNI) The Criminal Investigation Department inquiring into the murder case of a domestic help in the residence of former Meghalaya Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang are inching toward establishing a list of suspects.

On March 17, Rinehskhem Kharsohnoh (26) was allegedly 'brutally murdered' inside the residential premises of Mr Marbaniang who was the DGP at that time of the incident.

The murder assumed controversy as it happened inside the high security compound of the police chief. Moreover, the initial police statement claiming that the deceased had committed suicide and not been murdered raised more doubts, especially after the first autopsy report indicated that the girl was murdered.

''Our investigation agency has some evidences which proved that the deceased was murdered. And now we are inching toward establishing a list of suspects behind the incident,'' a senior police official told UNI here today.

Recently, a team of medical experts from Gauhati Medical College further established that the death of 26-year-old domestic help was 'homicide' and not 'suicide'.

''The second autopsy reports mentioned of injuries which indicates that the girl was struggling to escape from the perpetrators,'' the police official said, adding that the police were trying to recover the heavy and sharp weapon used by the perpetrators to commit the crime.

The CID had also recorded the statements of Mr Marbaniang and his wife besides, his home guards and orderlies with regard to the incident.

Earlier, Chief Minister D D Lapang, who ordered a CBI probe into the case, had admitted that Kharshohnoh was murdered and had not committed suicide.
