APHRC issues notices to Collector, Commissioner

Hyderabad, May 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Commission (APHRC) today issued notices to the city police Commissioner and the Collector to give their explanation by June 11 for opening fire at a mob after the bomb blast in Mecca Masjid on May 18.

Five people were killed in the firing and nine people were killed and 50 others injured in the blast.

Earlier, a delegation led by AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, met APHRC Chairman Mr Justice Subhashan Reddy and complained that fire was opened at innocent citizen by the police in total violation of human rights. Police had used Self Loading Rifles (SLRs), which were generally used against naxalites or terrorists.

Speaking to newspersons later, Mr Owaisi said that soon after the firing, the DGP had tried to mislead the people by saying that police had used only rubber bullets. Four police officers were involved in the firing and murder cases should be registered against them, he demanded.
