Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) V-Link Taxis, a leading fleet management company which recently launched 'Meru', a world-class metered radio taxi service in the metropolis in association with India Value Fund, a premier private equity fund, today said the company plans to extend its fleet to 10,000 cabs across major metros of the country in the next 3 to 5 years.

Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad , Chennai, Bangalore and Pune are the other metros where the company will launch its radio taxi fleet in the near future, a release said today.

V-Link Taxis Private Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of V-Link Group, set up with an aim to of provide cab services in the key cities of India.

Keeping in view its expansion plans, the company will also hire some 200 drivers in the next two months.

''We are offering drivers an opportunity to work in the organised sector, where they will earn well above the average industry standards. We provide a one-week extensive training programme on customer handling, safe driving skills, company processes, city road knowledge and operation of the GPS/GPRS technology, which ensures that our customers get the best service possible,'' said Anjan Deb, chief operation officer of V-Link Taxis.

Around 150 high-tech fully AC Maruti Esteem world class cabs, equipped with GPS-based technology to enable real-time taxi location and dispatch as well as with electronic meter and printer, are already ferrying passengers in Mumbai, and an additional 850 cabs will be joining the fleet by December this year.

V-Link managing director Neerja Gupta, ''We strongly feel that a city like Mumbai needs a significant upgrade in terms of infrastructure and along with the Maharashtra government, we have introduced a cab service that has been modelled on the best cab services in major cities like Singapore and London.'' Intrestingly, every fare that a Meru collects is digitally transmitted back to the control centre and is recorded for reference.

Also, each cab has an onboard printer which gives a printed receipt for the fare collected. The digital tamper proof meter on board and the printed receipt for all fares ensure that the passenger pays strictly in line with the fare structure set up by the government.
