Hyderabad, May 22 (UNI) TDP activists, led by party leader and MLA G Sayanna, were today arrested at the city police Commissionerate when they staged a dharna, demanding CBI inquiry into the police firing on unruly mob after the Mecca Masjid blast on Friday last.

The TDP workers sat on the road in front of the Commissionerate, disrupting traffic. They did not heed the advice of police officers who asked them to allow free flow of traffic and submit a memorandum if they wanted.

Following this, the police took the TDP activists, including the MLA, into custody.

Before boarding the police van, Mr Sayanna told the media that the police should have first used rubber bullets, teargas and water cannons before resorting to firing. Even when they had to open fire, they should have fired below the knee, he said and demanded that the firing case be handed over to the CBI.

He also demanded stringent punishment to those officials who had acted recklessly.
