Season first Hilsa consignment from Bangladesh reaches Bengal
Bangaon, May 22 (UNI) Bangladeshi Hilsha began its journey West Bengal this season as its first consignment of eighteen quintals crossed the Benapol-Petrapol border here in North 24-Parganas today.
Hilsa procured from the Padma are popular in both Bangladesh and West Bengal.
Market sources said the fish fetch some Rs 200 to Rs 400 per kg in West Bengal.
About 18 quintals of Hilsa in a truck reached here from Bangladesh for the first time this season.
Last year about 2,000 trucks of Hilsa were imported here through the Petrapol corridor.
Incidentally, official statistics of importing hilsa from Bangladesh were not available with the traders or local customs authorities.
