Nurse and Para-medic arrested for negligence

Howrah, May 22 (UNI) A nurse and a para-medic were today arrested for causing death to an octogenarian patient, who was admitted to Uluberia sub-divional hospital, hours before his death yesterday, police said.

Eighty-year-old Phanindra Nath Mondol along with his wife and daughter, was admitted to the hospital last evening with injuries after their house collapsed in the storms.

While his wife was released after being given first aid, Mondol and his daughter were in hospital.

After being checked by the physicians at the emegency ward of the hospital, doctors attending on him advised for keeping him in extra oxygen support.

However, a nurse on duty, Anita Bhowmick, had fitted a cylinder, which had no oxygen, resulting the collapse of the patient. The patient death came when he was given an injection by the para-medic, Arin Roy, police added.

The arrests were made following a complain lodged by the family of the victim, police said.
