New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has successfully built one of the world's largest Fluid Catalytic Cracking(FCC) regenerators and combustors for Reliance Petroleum's upcoming multi-billion dollar refinery at Jamnagar in Gujarat.
Completed six weeks ahead of schedule, the FCC regenerator and combustor is considered to be the heart of Reliance's export-oriented refinery, the fifth largest in the world, L&T said in a statment today.
The company had built a similar equipment for Reliance Industries' refinery at Jamnagar in 1998. Once the new refinery is completed, the massive refining complex at Jamnagar will become the world's largest single-location complex.
Order for the 1340-tonne mammoth equipment with a diameter of 16.3 metre was received in November-2005 for delivery to Reliance Petroleum in July, L&T said, adding it would be delivering it six weeks ahead of schedule by May-end.
The carbon-manganese steel equipment was flagged off yesterday from the company's Hazira plant.
Having fabricated such a large equipment using modern technology, L&T said it has not only improved its own track record but is now geared to fabricate more challenging and critical equipments for refineries around the world.
