India wins lone bronze in Asian Judo championship

Patiala, May 22 (UNI) In the recently-concluded Asian Judo Championship in Kuwait, India managed to win a bronze medal through Tombi Devi (CRPF) in 48 kg category.

Navjot Chana from Punjab Police was unlucky to lose against Donbay Bazarbek from Khazakistan in 60 kg category due to poor refereeing which was later regretted by the Technical Committee, according to J G Sharma, chief coach of the Indian contingent.

Thirty countries participated in the Championship.

The Indian Judokas had failed to win a medal in Doha Asian Games last year-end. In 2004 too, India had won a lone bronze medal in the Asian Judo Championship in Korea through Anita Chanu in 52 kg category.
