Human Rights record improved: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Srinagar, May 22: Expressing satisfaction over the improvement in the Human Rights (HR) record in the Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad stressed the need for countering a disinformation campaign launched against the state by some anti-national elements.

Chairing a Unified Command meeting here last evening, Mr Azad said there was considerable improvement in the overall situation and the HR violations too had come down as compared to the past. However, he said there was scope to improve further and serious efforts needed to strengthen the ongoing peace process.

He emphasised the need for respecting the sensibilities of the people while conducting security operations agaisnt militants in the state and said due care should be taken to avoid public inconvenience during the movement of security forces' convoys in various parts of the state.

The Chief Minister complimented the Army, security forces, police and other security agencies for their commendable role in fighting militancy, restoring peace and protecting the lives of the people.

The Chief Minister also directed the security forces to ensure security to the people, particularly of the tourists at Amarnath and other pilgrims.

Besides, Chief Secretary, Army Commanders, representatives of para-military forces and intelligence agencies, and the Director General of Police briefed the meeting about the security situation.

They listed out various measures to improve the security situation and also to resolve several long-standing problems of the people due to militancy in the state.
