Guj Cong calls for two-hour Saurashtra bandh on May 24
Ahmedabad, May 22 (UNI) Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has called for a two-hour bandh on May 24 in the Saurashtra region to protest rape and murder of two teenaged girls near Datar in Junagadh district.
The slain girl killed belonged to Junagadh while the other girl was from Rajkot.
The girls, who got separated from their family when they had gone to visit Datar shrine in Junagadh, were abducted and raped allegedly by two men - Mohan Hamir and Ramesh alias Bhad - in the nearby forests on May 13.
GCCI spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil said in a release here that instead of arresting the two culprits, Mr Modi is busy touring foreign countries and addressing seminars.
The two-hour bandh call was decided after a meeting today headed by GPCC chief Bharatsinh Solanki. Those present were leader of the opposition in State Assembly Arjun Modhwadia and other GPCC leaders and functionaries. The rape of a Koli community girl near Datar was a heinous crime and the culprits must be brought to book at the earliest. The State government has failed to react to this episode, Congressmen said at the meeting.
The bandh will be observed for two hours in the afternoon on Thursday. The meeting urged the mercantile community to down their shutter for two hours, the release added.
