Port Blair: Indira Point Lighthouse RACON repaired

Port Blair, May 22: The tsunami ravaged lighthouse, RACON, situated at Indira Point of Great Nicobar Island, has been repaired by officials of the Lighthouse and Light Ship (LH&LS) Department with the help of the Indian Coast Guard(ICG).

RACON, situated at the southern end of Indian territory, is partially submerged in the sea since the 2004 tsunami.

Official sources here said that a few months back RACON went unoperative. Efforts were made by the Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships, Port Blair with Department Tender vessel 'M V Pradeep' and a mechanised dingy.

After repeated efforts LH&LS officials finally succeeded in carrying out rectification and RACON was recently made serviceable.
